1972 1608 with DMSA stumbling

I have a 72 with a DMSA and single plane intake. I have been sorting this car out since I got it last year. It runs fairly well until I try to accelerlate quickly or go to WOT or when I get to 5000 RPM. At that point it starts to stumble and miss. It will eventually smooth out if I back the throttle and hold steady. This car sat for years before I got it.

I know that this could be caused by alot of things but I'm looking for suggestions on where to start looking. At this point the car has new points, plugs, cap, rotor, coil and wires. The timng has been set to factory spec by mechanic ( I believe it's 0 BTDC)

The mechanic says there may be water in the gas and suggests dry gas and drive it. It seems like it is improving in the last 50 miles.

Ideas?

I'm betting you have at least a couple of problems. If the car has been sitting for years and the carb has not been rebuilt, more than likely the accelerator pump diaphragm is no good. The high speed problem could be due to low fuel pressure from either a faulty pump or deteriorated fuel lines. Or a combination of both. Anytime a car sits for years, expect to replace all of the rubber stuff

Be sure to replace that timing belt, if you've not done so already.
