Hello from Mesquite Texas
Hello from Mesquite Texas
Hello all. I don't know why it took me so long to find this great site. Wow, so much great information on Spiders.
I see one or two posters here I think I know FTF.
A little about myself. I'm a "mature" woman. OK, OK------ OLD.
I am on my third 124. I had two when I lived in Denver in the mid-late 70's. It's been so long I'm not sure of the years but I think about a '68 & '72 maybe. I also had a Triump Stag for a while. Whoohoo Anyway I have a 1980 124 Pininfarnia in Blue Metallic now. My DH bought it for our first Valentine's Day together over 12 years ago. Some V Day present, huh? DH bought it from our friend Richard Cross (Who also introduced us. Thank you Richard!!), car & bike nut extraordinaire, who had bought it from a gentleman when he retired. I guess he put about 35,000 on it then parked it. It's at 70,417 as of today. It needs a fresh paint job, a center console and a few small things replaced. I'm thinking about a roll bar and wind screen but that's about the only "extra' thing I want to do to it. While I appreciate all the custom work on cars and bikes I'm not into that for myself.
I've already learned a lot by reading the 124 thread. And I love the tag line "Fling It Around Turns".
We just picked it up from Vick Autosport after Andy did a make ready on it. It has a after market air conditioner on it and even in this 100+ heat it will keep you pretty comfortable. I made it from Ft. Worth to Mesquite without sweating to death!
Hope to see some of you at Grapefest this year.
Also are there any Fiat folks from the Springfield Mo area here? That's my home AO and plan on driving the 124 in the Veteran's Day Parade this year.

Hi Nancy. Please, no apologies for your years. If anyone can appreciate that some things get better with the passing of time its a Fiat Spider owner.
And you certainly have cred. Owning three since before some on this forum were likely even born! Woohoo! You go girl! And do, please, keep on posting!

Italian motorcycles. An Italian car. An Italian wife. What more could a man desire?
Re: Hello from Mesquite Texas
Photo just this last week when we picked Baby Blue at Vick Autosport in Ft. Worth. Thank youuuuu Andy!! I'm gonna adopt that boy so I'll have my own wrench.
Thanks Don. I'll turn 64 on Aug 24th. The 1340 in my name comes from the size of my HD motor. I've been a biker since 1982 and on HD's since late 1984. Which is when I met Richard Cross who is a motorhead with cars and bikes. He and my DH were friends through the Italian car club here in North Texas. DH has a 1965 Alfa he bought new in Italy. DH had never even sat on a bike until he met me. The first time he rode on the back of my FLHTC to Italy Texas to a Italian bike show. He was 59 and now has a '96 Guzzi Calie.

That's one sweet blue Spider!

PS - One of you should own a Ducati. Perhaps a nice GT1000. Like...

Re: Hello from Mesquite Texas
Nice bike indeed but it makes my lower back hurt just looking at it. My heart belongs to HD. The first bike I ever saw was a old HD that a guy in Nixa Mo owned. His name was Bill King. He and his family lived (he had 4-5 of the most beautiful blond headed girls you ever saw) behind our house in town. Anyway one day he asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. I was 5. I had to go ask my mama and she said yes, thankfully. I'll remember that sound of potato, potato, potato the rest of my life. When we came home he drive up the bar ditch to give me a little thrill. Oh man! I knew one day I'd have a Harley.
I like my bikes low, slow & comfortable and my cars low and fast. LOL First sports car I ever really fell in love with, I was 10 or so, was a yellow XKE setting outside a store in Rockaway MO. I walked out of that store and said "Screw Vetts and T-Birds" that's what I want. LOL Never got one but still love them. I guess the Stag was as close as I'll ever come to a "UMPPH" car. Wish I had that sucker back.

Hi Nancy,
Welcome to the site. Great folks here. Great looking ride you have there. Good luck with it.
Noticed you are looking for a wind screen. One of the site members here sells a breeze beater that mounts on the head rests of your seats. I of course looked at it and said to myself - Why would I want one of those? My hair doesn't get messed up (no hair to mess up)
Then my wife and I tried one out. Brady said if we didn't like it he would be surprised. Wow what a difference. Now we each have one in our spiders. Send me a pm and I'll send you his info. Once again welcome to the site, George

Re: Hello from Mesquite Texas
Hi Nancy, welcome to the forum. Your car is the color I wanted when I started looking for my current Spider, but I got a smokin' deal on my red one, so that's what I ended up with. (The red has grown on me though).
It's good to have you aboard (helps us "oldies" balance out the age demographics).
Good job posting the pic of your car.

Welcome Nancy,
I suspect there's plenty of us plus 60's around this board.
I had to wait about 30 years or so for my second spider. Sure is fun. I can't stop driving it around.
Never had a bike though. Know i would have love one, but I suspect deep down I knew I'd end up hurting myself bad.
Nice Spider.

Re: Hello from Mesquite Texas
Mdrburchette , DH = Dear/Darling Husband or D*ck Head. Depending on how mad one is. LOL
Thankfully with my DH the latter is never called for.
Actually my cousin gave him another name after hearing for several years how good he is to me. One day she asked when she was going to get to meet "Frank The Wonder Boy". So he is sometimes referred as FTWB. He is truly a wonder.
On that wind screen.....I'm probably going to wait until after the first of the year and have a roll bar put in when I have it painted.
Rlux, if my DH had not given me the car we might have been able to work out a trade. I like those red ones. LOL
Oh, something else I wanted to ask about. I tried for "Tre Bella or Bella Tre" for a user name but it said that there were "forbidden" letters in it. What's up with that?

Welcome to the site Nancy. I'll hopefully be making the Grapevine Italian CarFest in Sept. Are you going to be showing your car there?

Rick, we will be there but I don't think she's ready to put in a show. If I change my mind do I have to sign up early to put it in the show?
Did you use to go to Todd and Denise's when they had the Italian car club get together? If so we probably have met.

Re: Hello from Mesquite Texas
As long as the field isn't already full you have until September 7th to register if you change your mind. My car is no where close to being ready for this years show but I hope to have it entered for 2011. Nope, I've never been to any of Todd and Denise's events.
