I live in Phoenix, and I really don't need a heater in this car I'm restoring. I plan on putting it back together without the heater core or any of the plumbing. This includes the water lines and tubes on the engine.
I don't have a hot water choke, just an electric one, so no worries there. What I'd like to do i9s plug the water jacket coming out of the head and completely remove the steel water line coming off the water pump that leads to the rear of the engine, and plug the hole it will leave in the pump.
Would doing this cause issues with the cooling system? I mean, does water have to flow through that tube? I've noticed that when anyone "bypasses" their heater core, they simply "loop" the system.
I'd like to remove the heater lines.
Re: I'd like to remove the heater lines.
it shouldn't be an issue. When the heater valve is closed there shouldn't be any circulation anyway
Re: I'd like to remove the heater lines.
It's your car and you can do what you like but if you ever sell it you might have trouble selling it to a potential buyer in the colder states. Just something to think about.

lol... They'll have to pry this car from my cold dead fingers when I'm finished with it.
And if I ever move back to the cold, I'll re-install the heater components.

We capped the coolant pipe at the water pump on the Lemons racer. We definitely didn't need heat in that thing with all the hot heads driving it. By looking at the water pump that's sitting on my dining room table, I see it wouldn't be too difficult to make a blanking plate to cover the hole and eliminate the pipe. I might just do that for the Lemons car since the water pump just puked water all over the shop floor after sitting dormant for 3 months.

Yes, that's exactly what I plan to do. And I'm not totally sure, but I think the water nipple on the head can just be unscrewed? If so, I'll put a plug in there.mdrburchette wrote: By looking at the water pump that's sitting on my dining room table, I see it wouldn't be too difficult to make a blanking plate to cover the hole and eliminate the pipe.

Me too. If my son or grandson doesn't want it then they can throw it in the hole with me.
