Hi all,
I just purchased a 1980 Fiat 2000 Spider Pininfarina. It's in fair condition on the exterior, it has a fresh paint job but there is some body work that I would've done before I painted it. The motor is the problem area. It doesn't want to start with the air filter hooked up. When I disconnect the air filter it starts right up and sounds smooth. However, when I put it in gear it has no power. If anyone out there has some advice I would be very grateful.
I don't really have much experience as a shade tree mechanic. So I'll be learning as I go on this project.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Hey Rob,
Congratulations and welcome to the forum. How 'bout a picture of the car. The tutorial is here: http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... res#p37831
In 1980, the later cars came with fuel injection, I'm guessing yours has a carburetor. Post your question about the air filter and power issue on the "Spider related" or "Engine and tuning" sections of the forum and you should get some help. Be sure and start the post out with '80 spider, not fuel injected, if that is the case.

Thanks for the advice. I'll get a picture posted later today. It really is a nice looking car if you can overlook the bad patchup areas. I guess thats almost like saying its a great running car if it would only run.

Hi there welcome! I know of a couple of Fiat enthusiasts in your area. We belong to the MOFLO chapter of FLU. W'd love to see you at a gathering. There is one coming up in the fall in Talequah. I see another new person in the KC area just very recently!
Cheers!
