Good morning,

Looks like a solid car. How's the drive train? My wife and I bought a brand
new Spider in 1972, loved that car. Took it on a long of trips and never had any problems. Then, along came the kids and off went the car. Finally got another in 2001 and have enjoyed restoring it and driving it is a pleasure. Enjoy your Spider. I sure wish I had your bumpers, don't like the big honkers that are on my 1981. They may be better protection, but they don't do anything for the looks of the car.

Good luck with your new '72 Spider. For my money the best year ever.

I saw the car advertised on Craigslist for the past week or so and I was very curious about its actual condition. The seller said the interior was in good shape and the engine was original. Does the car have the "1600" emblem on the back? You should have the 1600 cc motor, you should check. Check out this thread for engine numbers:

The interior is in really good shape. Motor appears to be the original, has been painted grey. I've been too busy to locate the stamp on the block. Does say 1600 on the back. Needs paint, I may prep myself, go to Macco for a temp job. She was quoted $1400 for a new job at a good shop. Mechanicals first. Having some issues getting her cranked. Was running when delivered.

Nice car and welcome to the forum. If you are going to prep the car yourself, don't go to Maaco for a "temp job" on the paint. You may regret it when you have to prep it all over again to have a nice paint job done. If you are doing the prep work, it won't cost that much more to have it done by a good body shop. Plus, the fewer number of paint layers the better. Buff it out and see what it looks like, you might be able to live with it for a while.

Gotta get some paint on her, the pass side & trunk have spider cracks, and surface rust. Don't think she'll make another winter very well.
