PET PEEVES when selling something
PET PEEVES when selling something
1st of all, its ridiculous to think you need to cover your license plate. are you retarded or something? Its the most ridiculous thing i can think of. this has to be the worst case of monkey see, monkey do I have ever came across. Has absolutely no purpose what so ever. If your trying to hide then you shouldn't be selling in public.
Besides that. I hate it when people are selling something and call it a barn find. Well good for you, now that you advertised that you got it for close to free. You want me to give you 12k for it?
Or how about the "It only needs a _______". Then put the son of a bitch on it and sell it properly. You think i am going to fork out 6k on a used car that you say only needs a coil because it won't spark? Right. And I don't even get to hear it run...
Oh, ya. Super rare, extremely rare. Especially when its not. If its super rare why would I want it? how am I going to fix it? No thanks, you keep it. Don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about hard to find, like an independent rear end from an abarth. I am talking in general about numbnuts trying to abuse the word "rare" in order to make a sale seem more appealing when its not.
Well, I could go on but I want others to contribute their pet peeves

"Totally restored" followed by a list of something like "new stereo and windshield wipers" or a similar minor list of stuff. Or worse, a set of picutres that reveal that clearly there is very little that has been restored. Or finally, a list of what needs to be fixed on the "totally restored" car.

Re: PET PEEVES when selling something
I think you about covered it. Misrepresenting a vehicle is another thing that really upsets me. I sent a deposit to a guy in NY for an X19 I was interested in after he assured me there was no rust and the car could be driven to NC. After driving 8 hours, we find the car resided beside a state salt pile and there wasn't enough metal to keep the engine in the car.
Another one is people that don't even bother cleaning a car properly before advertising it for sale. How do they expect to get top dollar if they didn't respect it enough to clean it up?

Or how about, "check engine light is on" easy fix just needs a new O2 sensor $40. Well fix the dam thing if it is that simple! I like it when people try to sell cars in the summer with photos of snow piles in the back ground. Yup thats a current photo?

Re: PET PEEVES when selling something
There is the 5 word description that barely describes what the vehicle is and then no photos. Come on, I need the ocular proof before I pick up the phone.
Then, there is also the, "I am selling this car for my brother-in-law who is too busy to sell it. I don't know anything about the car (read...don't ask me any questions)". First, why don't you make a list of FAQs and get the answers from the owner. Just because it isn't your car doesn't absolve you from the responsibility to provide accurate information about the car and provide meaningful responses to questions.
Well that is about all I got. I feel better now. That's kind of cathartic isn't it?

People on Craigs List that quote MSRP for their crap and think they are going even come close to getting it!
No photos because my camera just broke and I need to buy a new one. I'll upload pics this weekend...

Re: PET PEEVES when selling something
I've seen posts on craigslist saying "Very good condition Chevrolet for sale, call me to come see it"
They don't say the year or model of the car. And "good condition" could mean anything. Good for a 30 year old car? Perfect?
It's a CAR, you can't spend 5 minutes to sell something worth thousands of dollars?

Re: PET PEEVES when selling something
These are very amusing pet peeves to read. Yes, I forgot about that one. Just needs an O2 sensor. LOL . Yes I agree, Clean it before you sell it. Sheesh, even when i sell a used part. I clean it so the receiving end isn't disappointed.

Re: PET PEEVES when selling something
You must keep in mind that owners of Fiats are extremely intelligent and by comparison many craigslister are uneducated low life scammers. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean that there aren't a significant number of us intelligent people that use craigslist. We are just more honest than the rest.
That being said, I have sold and given away a lot of stuff on craigslist and the absolute worst thing is when you set a time to meet someone and they show up and look at what you're selling and say, "I'd really like to have it but I'm laid off, could you give it to me for free?" WTH Maybe it's just where I live and your experience is different.
Sorry if I offended anyone. If I did you should buy a Fiat now and prove your higher level of intellience

Done. Isn't that the whole reason we drive these things anyway?Zippy wrote: Sorry if I offended anyone. If I did you should buy a Fiat now and prove your higher level of intellience
Re: PET PEEVES when selling something
And that's why we buy more Fiats or better yet, different model Fiats !!!!!

How about people who post stuff for sale and then never get back to you when you try to contact them.

Re: PET PEEVES when selling something
Craigslist has pretty much put our local classifides out of business, but it sure does seem like you get alot more rude people that never get back to you or show up, etc than in the "old" days. Then again maybe that's just where society is headed.

One of my all-time favorites was from about 25 years ago:

that was it. simple. straightforward. no misrepresentations....
