If all goes welll - will be a Fiat 2000 Owner in 30 Days

Post by supplyguy »

Hello. New to your club. Have been living in Germany the past two years and will be returning to the US in a month. Wife has agreed to my latest mid life crisis - I'm keeping her SUV as my backup car and taking the plunge into a daily driver sports car, and I have been following Fiat 2000 offers for months. I daily read this website, ebay, cars.com, autotrader, and thanks to your forum, now craigslist - hoping to be as smart as possible when I start shopping next month. Hoping you all will guide me on this journey. This all goes back to 1982, when I lived in Germany last, and drove but chickened out on buying a new 2000. Only question I have is do I still fit. Six foot four and 230 pounds. Thanks for having me.

you'll fit fine. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of leg and head room. I know several Fiat spider owners of your weight and less height who haven't complained about fitting in. It's the getting in and out that can be hard, but even that won't be too bad. Good luck on your searches.

Where will you call home on this side of the Atlantic?

Six foot, somewhere near 200 lbs here. Since I've installed a smaller steering wheel and no longer bang my left knee when making gear changes, I'm very happy. Sufficient headroom too.

My 6' 4" 192 lb 15 y.o son has started to learn to drive. I taught him to drive the spider in a parking lot. He fits fine with the seat all the way back. He says it is easier to fit in than our Honda Odyssey minivan. He does complain about 2 things:
1) His left knee hitting the stock steering wheel (NSDave has solved that with a smaller wheel).
2) He has big feet/shoes and they get a bit hung up on the close pedals and bottom edge of dash console. Driving in his socks is no problem. Plus remember he is just now figuring out where the pedals are in the first place.

P.S. I am 6'1"" and have to move the seat up after he gets out.
