Hello All
So it's time to bring in my 82' spider for a go over by my fiat mechanic, just some brief history on the car, I bought it about 4-months ago down in Los Angeles with very low mileage, I ran a carfax and it seemed to jive with the "oral history" on the car. I had a run of the mill garage (AAA approved, in hindsight I should have brought the car to Mark's shop) do a diagnostic on the car and the report was good, it passed smog test and the only potential red-flag was the compression test was 150-150-150-125, oh and a cracked door hinge.
Since I have had the car I have only done an oil/filter change and a few other interior/accessory tinkerings. So I am having my mechanic do a brake job as the front pads have the thickness of about half an Oreo cookie (and not the double-stuff) so I picked up some drilled/slotted rotors and EBC greenstuff pads. I am also having him change the timing belt and cut one of the lobes off that drives the smog pump or something (mechanic recommended) and while in there do a full tune-up including valve adjust/timing. So what kind of a labor bill can I expect? I realize this depends on a number of variables some of which may not be immediately estimated until into the job. Thanks
Mike

Correction it's unnecessary fuel pump lobe on the Aux. cam.
Re: Labor hrs to do timing belt/tune-up/valve adjust by mechanic
Why would you spend money to cut the lobe off of the aux shaft? Just align it right when he does the timing belt and it won't be a problem. Maybe I'm missing something here.

the fuel pump lobe makes the 2.0 an interference engine. Timing belt failure can result in crankshaft-aux shaft contact resulting in the aux shaft being shoved out the side of the block.
The timing belt job is much longer if the tin covers are still in place and if the front seals are getting replaced.

Hi Mark, thanks for the clarification on that point, so would you recommend having the "lobectomy" or is it overkill?

I think it's a good thing on an FI motor
