Timing question

Post by dulcimerbob »

I have installed the new belt and tensioner bearing on my 76. The cam gears and the aux shat all lined up. I put on the cover and my crank seems to have moved as the marks do not line up. Can I remove the belt and turn the crank to the correct postion or is it more involved than that? Thanks

it's pretty much that simple, turn the motor over 2 revolutions by hand after re-timing to check the alignment. Re-do as many times as it takes to get it right

reset crankpulley and reinstalled belt. Now the engine won't turn clockwise but a little and I hear a thunk inside the engine when it stops turning. What have I screwed up now ?

Sounds like the aux shaft is off. With the cams and crank lined up, the aux shaft pulley mark should be at 1 o'clock

My aux shaft doesn't have the two holes for alignment. All I coulkd find was a very small casting on the lip of the pully. Does this sound right?

Using a small mirror I located a hole on the aux pully and lined it up. The engine turned fine then and later I started it up. Thanks for the input.
