Hello from the San Francisco Bay area

Post by Hobart »

My mother had a 1972 124 Fiat spider that I rode in when I was not even in Kindergarten. Perhaps that is where my interest came from. Then my first sports car when I was a 20 something was a 1980 Fiat Spider 2000. Wonderful light blue metallic color. I miss it more than any of my old girlfriends. My heart beats faster whenever I see one of these now. Not sure how I would still feel to drive one as I haven't driven one now for about 17 years and I drive a 2006 Porsche 911S Convertible now.

I am looking for the perfect 1985.5 and I am even considering to import a Volumex, although that is seeming like overkill at the moment, but I still might do it.

I need to test drive one now in the Bay area, but nothing of quality to try right now on Craigslist or anywhere else in this area. Once I test drive one would buy one located anywhere in the USA, but I won't fly around just for a test drive, well maybe for the right car. ;-)

If anyone know of a car in excellent shape, please contact me. I am looking for a 1980 or newer or even better a 1985.5 or that one Volumex in the USA that I read about on these boards or any other abroad.

HI Hobart,

Well your Mom raised you right, although I'm not sure about the German iron.

Here is a great search site. Wish I had it when I was looking. It is quite comprehensive:

Just plug in Fiat and 1980 to 1985 or whatever and they all pop up.

Also you will no doubt hear from Denise. I recall she knew of an 85.5 down in NC.

Good luck with your search. It's part of the fun.

I know an 85.5 that is for sale in the Seattle area that was originally from San Francisco. A member here found it on CL and emailed it to me as I knew someone in my club that was looking. They put a lot of mechanical work into it but decided not not to keep it. It's just personal preference- they are going back to chrome bumpers or a Turbo. It's burgundy with black interior- a rare color combo. The interior is mostly original and in good condition and being a CA car it's pretty rust free.

Let me know if you are interested and I can send you their info.
