I just picked up a 79 spider about 6 weeks ago, so ive been lurking here for a few months.
Anyway, when i got the car the brake pedal was very soft and low. The car came with new flexible hoses, so i installed those and replaced the fluid. Yes, i got all 5 hoses.
I used ATE Super Blue fluid that i had planned to put in my now sold VW. (Yes, it was unopened before i started on the Fiat) I bled each line beginning with the RR, then RL, FR, FL. I bled each, with a helper, until i got fresh blue fluid. When pumping to bleed the pedal built good pressure and it seemed fine. However, my pedal still sinks about 1-2inches lower than i think it should and the brakes feel soft. I don't get any pulling, they just feel like crap.
Any suggestions?

Re: New guy with a brake question
did you open or bypass the rear compensator for bleeding? did you bleed the mc first?
Re: New guy with a brake question
how do you open the compensator? obviously i did not do this. if i got blue fluid all the way to each caliper i'm assuming i pushed fluid through the compensator.
should i have bled the mc separately? i've always bled the entire system at once.

On a 124 the rear axle needs to be supported with jack stands so the normal body weight is compressing the springs and as a result the torsion spring will open the rear compensator valve. You can then successfully bleed the rear brakes.

ok, did that. the axle was on jack stands when i did the rears.
Re: New guy with a brake question
having the car on stands won't fully open the compensator, and you may still have air in it. You need to disconnect the link to it and secure the link so the valve is wide open
