Hello from Maryland

Post by boxdogracing »

Hi I'am new to the forum, I have an 83 spider pininfarina. It has been sitting for three years after the oil light came on. I have the motor out now and found a dent in the oil pan caused a broken oil pump, bearings look good (I will probably use fresh on reassembly) so no catastrophic damage. Engine should be back in and running in two weeks.

I'am hoping with the help of you guys I can have fun reliable car, reliability has been my problem. When I bought the car it started to leak oil bad. I pulled the motor replaced all seals and gaskets drove 1500mi, pulled in my driveway clunk!! broke a new timing belt... I found a bent aux. shaft, tore down motor, installed new aux. shaft (this one I cut and plugged to eliminate interference from the unnecessary fuel pump lobe). Dove just a few hundred miles and the head gasket failed spraying pressurized oil on the exhaust manifold. I pulled the head, had it decked, and went back together. This time I got 2-3000mi. Until the oil light came on, and parked it for three years untouched till last week.

My spider is a nice car that is just a blast to drive and gets looks everywhere it goes. I can't wait to drive it again.
Thanks in advance for help with my questions to follow shortly.

Hello and Welcome! You should name your car Morris, 'cause it seems to have nine lives! No catastrophic damage; that's good.

There are about 100 Fiats in the greater D.C. area; many owners belong to http://www.dcfiats.org, a club big on the social aspects of ownership, with most events family-oriented. There are two Fiat-specific garages in the area; one in Baltimore, the other in College Park. A fellow in Annapolis has helped me a lot in restoring my '73.

So in addition to the terrific guys and gals on this forum, you're fortunate to live in an area with lots of local support, as well. Good luck in getting your car back on the road, and let me know if another pair of eyes (or another six-pack :D ) will help.
