Need some advice as to it mite be a fuel problem. Yesterday driving for about 2 hrs in traffic at 30C weather the car started to stall on acceleration then smooth out. I parked the car for about 3/4 of an hour went to start it no go , someone stoped by to help and said put some ice on the fuel pump to cool it off which I did and it started after a few cranks. On the way home the car started to act up again but made it home and parked the . Replaced the fuel pump last year purchased from IAP, the car is a 1978 with a 2 litre carb. Anyone know why the car did this .
Thanks
Nick

Re: Engine stalls
Placing the ice on the fuel pump didn't cool the pump down, but removed enough heat to clear the vapor lock, which prevents the flow of fuel. I have seen this on several Fiats (not just spiders) over the years. The easiest fix is to change over to a electric fuel pump. For testing purposes you can get one of the early electric pumps and mount it on the fender wall by the carb and just run the lines from the mechanical pump to the electric one. If it fixes the problem, look into mounting the pump back by the tank. Electric pumps push fule better than sucking a long distance. This should solve the problem.
Even with the pump in the engine bay, it may still show a little vapor lock, but let the pump run till quiet before turning key to start.

Thanks Dana. Do you know where I could purchase an electrical fuel pump. Also need to know the pressure of the pump .

it's odd that the fuel pump would fail that quickly. The problem sounds more like a carb issue since it happened on acceleration. Does your car still have a points-type dist?
