1977 Fiat Spider Oil Pressure Gauge

Post by TJBONES »

Hi All, I'm a new Fiat owner. Just bought my wife a 1977 Fiat with only 34,000 miles on it. It needs some work but not much, the engine runs good, body only has a few small dents, interior needs all the work(sat for along time with top down) the best part is absuluty no rust on this gem, lucky me. First problem i'm fixing is the oil pressure gauge, somebody put an after market gauge on but it does not work. The original gauge looks great. I see that the pressure gauge hookup is above the oil filter my question is this. I see some wires that are not hooked up(the best I can see is 4 wires there maybe more I have to trace them all from the gauge) does anybody know or have a diagram for where these wires hook to? This is the such a fun car to drive but I dont want to run it to much until I see what the oil pressure is doing. Thanks All Tim

here's a guide to adding a gauge from scratch but it does include a wiring guide.

If/when you get the gauge hooked up be prepared to worry. In my experience they always read very low.

When I first experienced this on my `77 (which then had 77,000 miles on it) an experienced FIAT mechanic told me "D on't worry. If it was really that low the engine would have self-destructed by now."
