valve seal

Post by nibbes123 »

It is possible to replace the valve seals without taking out the head, if someone has done this please let me know.

Thanks

I don't think it's possible. I believe you have to remove the head to keep the valves from falling into the piston chamber. I just went through having to remove the head to replace the guides and valve seals.

Removing the head would be much less work. You can get a new gasket for around $30. Plus you get a good view of your cylinders.

You can use air pressure to hold up the valves, you can get or make a tool that goes in the spark plug hole but its just as easy to take the head off, and while its off you can examine the head and cylinders like pastaroni34 said and you could lap the valves at the same time.

it's very do-able. As mentioned you either need air pressure to hold the valve up or some other method. The low buck version is to push rope into the cylinder and raise the piston to force the rope into the valve. There are tools to remove and install the keepers with the head on the engine
