1985 Pininfarina engine dies

Post by dwcars0 »

I bought this car about 200 miles ago. It worked ok and I had a minor tuneup done. Now it runs better except if its accelerated hard. It will pull hard, but a soon as you lift off the gas pedal, it dies and will not restart for 10 minutes or more, and I have to be careful not to kill the battery trying. When it restarts, it runs rough for a bit and then its fine again as long as you take it real easy. Could it be fuel line regulator, fuel pump, air mass device??? I tried a new fuel filter, but no change.

I'd first check the intake boot for cracks, then check the flap in the Air Flow Meter and see if it sticks when it goes to the end of its' travel

Mark. Thanks for the tip. I will check it out this weekend, and then try and source out a new intake boot. Maybe the mechanic twisted it during the tuneup. The other strange thing is the engine didn't drip any oil until he changed it. Now it seems to be dripping from the bellhousing.

maybe he used a lighter weight oil than what the engine had in it

Mark. He used 10w-30 Castrol GTX. What oil would you suggest. Do you think I should try the "Valvoline High Milage" oil? I appreciate your advice. I am not able to get much advice from local mechanics. Dan

since he just changed it, I'd run it awhile and see how consumption and leakage is. Heavier oil will leak less, but it depends on the temp range you need also. If you're in subzero temps, heavy oil isn't a good idea
