Just bought a '73 spider this week. Looks like it is going to be a fun car to tinker and work on. I am sure I will have a blast with it. Figured I needed something to work on besides my truck.

Re: Newbie From Alberta, Canada
Well Glad to hear there is a parts supplier here. Started working on the car today, had to do a bit of work to be able to drive it home this weekend. I am still not sure if I made the right choice by buying this particular fiat. But I am sure I am going to enjoy the love/hate relationship I already have with the car
I had to bleed the brakes and prime the fuel system since it had been sitting in a garage for 7 years. Then I started troubleshooting the non-working light system. Got everything but the signals working. Hopefully the new signal flasher i install tomorrow does the trick.
As I work on it more and more though I notice more rust than I had originally. It had been patched up by a less than professional backyard auto body wanna-be. I will have to wait and see if this one is actually worth redoing the body on.
I will post pictures once I manage to compress one to the 6kbs required for this site

Re: Newbie From Alberta, Canada
Sounds like you're making really good progress. I wouldn't let the general public know that you've got most of the electrical problems sorted out so quickly; you'll have a line of old Fiats outside your door! Don't expect the car to run very well until you've drained or consumed all of the old fuel. The hazard switch, believe it or not, is a common source of blinker problems, so that might bear investigating if a new flasher doesn't fix it. Photos must first be uploaded to a photo-sharing site, then linked to your message. Good luck, and let us know how you're making out. Lots of good info can be Searched, and specific issues get the best responses (and make Searching easier for your successors) when posted in relevant categories.

Check the shock towers for rust before you go too far with anything else. There are all kinds of horror stories on the forum about rusted shock towers. Do a search on them for pics and fixes. I use flickr for my photos. You can download them as a url in a smaller size. copy the url, click on the 'Img" button and paste the url between the two [img] thingies.

AHHHH that explains the pictures.. Thanks.
No worries about old fuel since the PO stored it without fuel or a battery Thanks for the tip on the hazard switch. Will definitely keep that in mind. HAHAHA it wasn't a quick fix on the lights. I spent a few hours working on it. One big advantage of the northern summers is the extremely large amount of daylight to work on cars in the driveway.
I have a parts car that came with this one. The frame is rusted but the body seems ok, I was just wondering what parts are worth salvaging and whats not.
I had checked the strut towers. There is a little bit of rust. I am thinking I should be able to repair them, no sagging or distortion yet.
Thanks
