Help with rear crankcase seal

Post by holidayharv »

I'm not offering help... I need it.

Can anyone give me any tips on replacing the rear crankcase seal on my 79? I read a thread somewhere where advice was offered but you think I can find it when I need it? I've managed to get the old one off but putting the new one in is a challenge.

Some steps 1, 2, 3 etc that improve upon my manual's advise would be greatly appreciated:

REPLACING A CRANK CASE SEAL:
step 1: remove old seal
step 2: install new seal

there are two different inner diameters, and your 79 uses the larger one. There is only 4mm difference, so it's hard to see unless you look closely. If you had a new small seal, you wouldn't get it in.

We learned that the hard way. We had too big of one and it poured oil.
