I receiving a 75 124 coupe project for helping out around a friends shop. right now it really rough
I am thinking of making it into a weekend/ auto-x toy.
A bit about me, I am a Geo-chem major at U Maine Farmington, and i have been auto-xing for 7 years now. I started out with a pickup, then had an FB rx-7 and most recently shared a formula vee with my brother and one of his friends. But i really wanted something of my own and this car fell into my lap so i am going to go for it.
I would love any help people could give me on how to make this into the best auto-x car i can while still keeping it street legal
Thanks
-Eric

Welcome Eric,
There are several autocrossers here to help you out. They might not be reading the intro section so post your Q's on the appropriate sub-forum. BTW get some before pics and post 'em. Here's a link to the tutorial:

thanks, once i do some maintenance to the car, and prep it for paint, ill probably start looking into mods for auto-x. as you can see right now it is quite stripped down, and the PO went through and fixed a lot of the body problems, but he didnt use a nice primer and surface rust has started to form on the car. Sadly the interior is going to take the most work, to the point where i am leaning towards making it a resto-mod and putting in two racing buckets, harnesses, and a roll bar. then stripping out the majority of the rest of whats left.

Re: Hi from Maine
i circle track raced 124 coupes for many years. they are rock solid race cars, respond well to modifications. handle like a dream. parts availability is good, except for body parts as i used most of them up good luck, i would be glad to answer any questions you might have about building a race car. i am not a self proclamed expert or anything like that. just have many years experience with coupe race cars. chassis theory, roll centers, bump steer, camber gain etc. for the coupe

Re: Hi from Maine
nice, that would be a great help. This will be my first ground up project, the vee basically came ready to race and other then my LS integra in STS i was in stock class for my other endeavors. Im really looking forward to the trials and tribulations of making this into a fun little car.
I really like the idea of running 40 IDFs, but i also have a t4 and volvo side-mount laying around my house. I also have a VF10 off my Legacy SS that would be used as well. However i dont really know how practical having a boosted auto-x car would be over running the 40 IDFs. Also Im trying to learn more about turboing a carborated car, so that i can adequately decide on which route i would want to go. I have joined turbo124 and I am browsing their site looking for whats needed, but in not getting very far on doing it to a carborated car. I am slightly addicted to turbo now after having my SS and knowing how that feels when the turbo kicks in.
I think once i get this project rolling in a few weeks ( need to finish with the VWs in the bargain first) i will have many more questions on here.
