79 and 81 Fiat Spider Owner from Loveland, CO

Post by Samy »

Hi, I have a 79 and 81 Fiat Spider. The 79 is a daily driver. I replaced the junky vacuum mouse trap manifold and carb with a 1800 single plane manifold and 32/36 Weber. It actually runs really good!! Can't put into 4th gear, so I just go from 3rd to 5th. Who needs 4th!! Actually I have a replacement trans, which I will install when the clutch goes out.
The 81 is a total basket case. I saved it from the junkyard!! Had to rewire the inside wiring harness and fuse block, etc. It does run, but the FI is messed up or something tied to it. I will be leveraging the knowledge of the forum members for help in getting it back on the road. Looking forward to working with everyone!!

Welcome, Samy. We'd love to see pics of your cars. Wow, looks like you own one of the worst years for performance and one of the best once you get it running. One thing about this site is we have plenty of people willing to share their knowledge.

Hi Samy, welcome to the forum. There are some good resources for learning and diagnosing the FI system on our cars if you don't have them yet. Brad Artigue's maintenance manual includes a section for FI and he also has very good wiring diagrams available on his site: http://artigue.com/?page_id=3
Here's a good diagnostics section from another manual: http://www.angelfire.com/wa2/fits/index.html#ljetguide
And this one, thanks to Kelly Dicker at Wine Country Motors;

Good luck and keep us posted how it's going.
