Hello All,
The info on this forum has been so helpful in the past, and I want to say thanks to all who contribute. I gave up on my old Spider a long time ago and now have just a shell of rust in the field. After reading here the "bug" bit me again and I just rolled a 1974 124 off the trailer into my driveway. I'm sure I'll be asking a million stupid questions as I work to get this thing road ready. She's not bad at all in the cancer department, with the biggest problem around the tail lights from backing into something years ago and not really being repaired properly. Shock columns are solid, floor pans are solid. crossmember is solid, trunk is solid. I knew the recent history as I spoke regularly about the car with the guy I bought it from, so I don't have to worry about "little white lies". Rebuilt carb in 2007. He drove it a year with just a fuel pressure guage. In winter of '07, he took dash apart and installed all meters. He lost all power then. No voltage to coil, etc. Since I've seen it running myself, at least I know this looks to be all electrical. It does have some small oil leaks and a little oil leaking from the diff., but nothing major as long as you keep a check on it. He's done some body work and it's nearly ready to paint. As usual, It's missing the front bumper and the grill is gone. Got everything else. I'm replacing the timing belt and water pump next week and yanking that stupid smog pump off the exhaust cam and then I begin the horrible task of dealing with years of butchered wiring. Sorry to ramble so much but I thought a brief history might help when I start asking questions. Once again, thanks for making this knowledge base available to us all.

Welcome Wyatt! You've come to the right place to get your questions answered. Hope that car came with a wiring diagram. I believe the 74 was an animal all it's own and the wiring is different than any of the other models. On the upside, it is supposed to be the strongest running in stock form and it's a thin bumper car so you'll be the envy of all those 82 FI owners. ...even though they won't let you know it.

Welcome to the forum Wyatt. Gee, I almost envy you, getting to go through all the wiring. How fun is that?
