Can I run the E85 in my 1978 Fiat? It is basically stock except for a carb upgrade and electronic ignition.

E85 Fuel
Re: E85 Fuel
why would you want to do that? E85 gives you 15% less mileage per gallon than regular gas. Dont know if the gaskets and seals can handle the alcohol content. Car wasnt designed for it, but if you want to try it, tell us what the drive was like.
Re: E85 Fuel
You'll need upgraded seals because the ethanol will eat rubber. I'm certain it will run without modification though. To tune it properly you'll need more fuel, so bigger jets for your carb. To get the full benefit of running it, bump up the compression and add more advance, ethanol has a higher octane rating than gasoline.

Re: E85 Fuel
I've run E85 in my 07 Eclipse GTV6. Man it makes the motor come to life. but thats a whole different monster than a carb'd fiat. It'll suck up a tank in a day of heavy driving. sometimes the engine light goes on because the injectors can't keep up at 6k. Its fun, wild and powerful, but it's alcohol and it will work on your seals if you don't change them eventually. But its safe to put a tank in every now and then. Make sure your almost on Empty first, otherwise your just using a blend. So in your street car if you want a shot of "racing" fuel for the day. Use E85
