stalling in reverse

Question
My 79 spider,

After putting the car in reverse and coming to a complete stop my engine stalls. This happens even after the engine has been warmed up.
note I have an automatic tranny.

I do not have this problem when the car is in forward and stopped at a traffic light for example.
