Hello from Detroit, soon Houston, Texas

Post by DoctorPDR »

Well, I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. My wife and I currently reside in Oakland County, which is about 40 miles North of Detroit. We both have lived in Michigan our whole life. By August of this year, we plan on moving out of this wretched state and relocating to Houston, Texas. We honestly can't WAIT to move. Never thought I would hear myself say that.

Anyway, we are the proud owner of a 1981 Fiat Spider (#366 of 1,000) Anniversary Edition, with a rare factory option of power windows. I have included a few pics here. I have sunk thousands into this car and have provided a link to those interested in seeing over 200 pics of a restoration, custom mods, and other good information. Feel free to visit: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2649359/

In conclusion, I am looking for a few things for my car:

1. I need a defroster/defogger lens with retaining clip. This piece fits in the lower console, directly in front of the blower motor switch.

2. I'm looking for a good wood guy. I want to replace the wood panels on my dashboard, middle console, and lower console. I am seeking a hard wood with either Mahogany or Cherry finish. I will need six pieces total to replace a temporary set that I fabricated (I'm not happy with the appearance) and need a wood piece to accommodate a total of 6 gauges, located in front of my steering wheel. I added the oil pressure gauge above my clock. LOCATED - ALL SET!

3. Blinkers that actually fit the holes next to the shock holes (where my Abarth style bonnets are now) for the front bumper. I heard of lenses from a Dodge Colt fitting these holes perfectly, but have had no luck in finding them. If I can't find anything, I will end up buying a headlight kit that have turn signals incorporated in them. Would prefer NOT to do that! LOCATED - ALL SET!

Anyway, I look foward to hearing from you and feel free to PM or email me if you have any ideas or information. Thanks, and see you in the threads.

Welcome soon to be Texan.
This is a great place for info on just about anything including fiats. If you hav'nt done so check the threds at the bottom of the index to post the parts your looking for, there usually is someone parting out a car near you.
I don't know about wood guy.. but there is a wood girl... check Denise Burchette, she is doing some dashes for some members at the moment.
There are several options on the turn signal issue. I used turn signal lights from a honda motorcycle and mounted onto the bumper bracket. Our moderator has a nice system that fills in the hole completely.
Car looks great and like you I and a number here have spent way too much, but don't think about it on those warm top down days

Hello Narfire and thanks. If the mod is Mark Allison, I have spoken with him. Unfortunately, his kit is for the shock holes for the front bumper. I need the outside holes and would love to find turn signals that fill that hole completely.

Anyway, do you have a screen name for Denise on the wood dash kit?

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

How are the blinkers attached in the rear? I hope it's not with a metal strap pre-punched with holes. Anyway to get a pic of that?

Nice ride and welcome to the site soon to be fellow Texan!

Here's an alternative for your light issue. Check out the end of this thread.

One of the guys used blinkers off of a VW Golf III. They look pretty good.

Welcome and welcome to Houston. We have a great club down here with lots of connections and even some guys that can fabricate anything you will need. I look foward to checking our your car in person. The president of the club has an add that runs on craigslist. Just search Fiat on Houston's Craigslist and it will show up. Mike will get you hooked up with all the guys here in the Houston area and you can follow allong with what's going on down here. Might even be in time to order a Texas Fiat T-shirt if you want not sure though as I am not in charge of this.

Thanks htchevyii. Yes, the media isn't exhaggerating. Michigan has the worst economy in the entire country and we can't wait to get out of here.
