"Knife-edging" (at least in all of the circles I've ever run in) refers specifically to changing the shape of the leading-edge of the counterweights (and in extreme cases, even the throws) to a 'sharpened' edge, rather than a blunt edge. It is this practice that I am discouraging.
Having said that, my guess is that since the Fiat TC is, as you say, a single-plane crank, there are likely no counterweights to begin with ( I haven't actually had mine open yet) which would make "knife-edging" impossible in the first place.
