Hello from SE Michigan (livonia)

Post by 1979FiatSpider »

Hello everyone, I've owned my fiat for almost a year now. Typical 1979 with the usual flaws, driver’s seat back all bent up, crack at upper drivers side door hinge, slight lean. I'm waiting on a mechanical fuel pump to arrive and while it was down decided to look into that driver seat issue. Here it is the day I bought it.

You really have a nice car there, even with it's flaws. Have you done any performance mods to give that carbed 2L a little kick in the pants?

Thanks. It needs some type of mods, because this thing is dog slow. The PO ripped out a bunch of the smog stuff and I'm not quite sure what belongs it there and if its helping or not. I'm sure it doesn't help that the fuel pump was leaking into the oil. I should have that fixed here soon. I'm glad I found the list and looking forward to learning from others. Looks like I can easily adapt a passenger seat to work in the drivers spot with one small modification. I was going to try and fix the old but it looks like someone already had a hand at that and not much left to work with.

Welcome Neighbor! Good to see another Fiat guy here in SE Michigan.

Wow that seat back is a mess; it looks like you need a donor seat. Have you checked out our local FLU chapter, or craigslist for a parts car, there is also a pick and pull junk yard on eight mile in Warren/Detroit that had a few Spiders, but it’s been years since I had been there.

Ted and yes Pope is my Neighbor too, so that makes Three Fiat guys with in a few miles of each other, What is the world comming to!

Hey Ted,
Great to see someone so close. I found a guy in Wixom that has some parts. I'm trying to get out there tonight to see if he has a good seat frame and if he'll let it go "cheap". I also cracked a license plate light housing so I'll be trying to source one of them. Is there a local FLU chapter? I saw (on-line) the one on the west side of the state is that the one? I haven't seen too many Spider124's around. There is someone local that has a red one with some monster engine in it. I've caught only glimpses of it while driving (opposite directions). Usually running with no hood on. Anyone you know?

Hey Brad, Yes there is a local FLU chaper it is called FLUID and is run by Sue Watch. The WEB site has been down for some time but it is best to contact her directly, clicking on he name in the FLU chapers at this site will take you to her email, http://www.fiatlanciaunlimited.com/chapters.asp

The club meets once a month and does have planed activities through out the summer.

Parts car in Wixom? Is that the one on craigslist, if so let me know what it looks like, not that i need anything but who knows.

Red no hood monster engine spider, I don't know who that is, my car is resting, still waiting for warmer weather so i lay down some paint of the repaired rear quarter, Stupid Mini ran into me in the parking lot last fall.

Indeed welcome, there are several FLU groups you can be a part of in the area and of course the indomitable Mike Bouse just a short drive away (well maybe a bit more than a short drive...) The West Michigan FLU will be having a garage day in May.

I am sure he will be along soon to welcome you.

Nice looking car. Good to be able to see it. Hopefully in person sometime soon.

Yeah it's the one listed on Craigslist. I picked, upper drivers seat, and license plate light housing, and a couple little trim pieces. Might go back for the clock I didn't look at his but realized after I got home that mine is shot. His parts car is a black 1980, still has engine. Decent metal some rust. Tan Interior faded some cracks in seats. tan top wasted. He's a nice guy. I should have took some picks, I had my camera.

Thanks for the info on the local FLU chapter. I'll be shooting Sue and email soon.
