been so long... thought I'd start over!

Post by maytag »

Hi All!

My name's Maytag... and I'm an ......

o... wait... wrong group.

I've spent the last 10 days fighting with desktop computer woes, initiated when my daughter unwittingly clicked on that fake "XP Security" virus.

$400 and 10 days later: I'm back.

But I missed the forum so badly, I could hardly stand it! (they've blocked my access at work.... 'cuz they thought it'd be funny.... yeah... real funny... haha...) :?

To any of you who may have been waiting on parts: I think everything has shipped. And I think I've contacted at least MOST of you. Sorry for the delays. If you feel like the inconvenience has a dollar value... let me know.. I'll refund that.
Otherwise: please accept my apologies?

Hi Maytag

I had the exact same virus about two weeks ago. My Norton 360 does not and will not catch it. I went to http://www.malwarebytes.org on my work computer and downloaded their free malware program on a flash drive. I then plugged the flash drive into my home computer and after several attemps, got it to open and run the program. It took care of the virus with about a 15 minute scan. That's probably the worst virus I've had.

Glad to hear you're back

Josh

yeah...
I was actually able to get the virus handled... but by the time I did, I had so many registry errors, I thought I'd do a clean install....
but I'm using old hardware here (P4, 3.2g), so I thought I'd flash the BIOS and go for a little more useability. And I cooked the MOBO in doing so.

So I ordered a used MOBO.... which (after a week's shipping) arrived DOA.

Long story short..... I've got an essentially new desktop now....
same basic setup I started with;
ASAS P4C800E-D
3.4ghz
2g Ram
2; 1tb SATA drives

it's a MONSTER!

I've always wondered about that phrase...
The term starts with alcohol_ic.

Therefore wouldn't it be Fiat_ic?...as opposed to Fiat_holic, or Fiat_oholic?

:?
