Joining in on the Fun!

Post by chief »

Chief here from Northwest GA.Just picked up a 76 from the hills of North Carolina, 8)
it had been lying dormant for the past three years.
The previous owner has allready replaced about 90% of the interior.
He is a furniture maker and has fitted the dash with solid burl wood already.
The down side is the wood will have to be refinished because it sat covered outside for the last three years.
It will need a rear floor pan where it has just sat and rusted away but other than that he has just about finished the inside.
Down side for right now is it is snowing, cold, wet and miserable outside so i can't get to work on it, well one thing at a time
so let the games begin!

How Chief,

Congratulations (I think) on your new Fiat. Let's see some pictures.

Do you know what your getting into here, or are you just winging it?

Any past spider history?

Welcome,

Doug

it is a 124 spider which i think is the correcct terminology,
we are just winging it for now, we have been reading up quite a bit though.
can anyone tell what the factory colors were? this one has been painted yellow, and could use a fresh coat of paint.

Welcome Chief. As soon as you guys get finished playing at understanding a real winter, you can get down to work. Sorry, that's just a dig at your neighbour Craig in Blairsville.

The original paint code sticker would normally be under the trunk lid on the right hand side, near the back. Good luck!

Hey Chief, where in Ga. are you? I live in Blairsville a couple miles from the Carolina border. We had about 8'' of snow here today in the mountains. What a mess!!I cant wait til' spring..In the last couple years there have been quite a few Spiders show up here in Ga.We have some pretty big events coming up this summer, including Fiat Freakout in Asheville.
Is the car running, and just in need of cosnetics? There are some experts here that can lead you through your issues.Good luck, and lets see some pix ...when you dig the car out of the snow.

Hi Craig,
I am located just south of Dalton,
Blueridge is right at 45min away for me.
sounds like you guy's got hammered with snow.
Alas all we saw was just flurries all day.
looks like today will be nice though.
will post some pics of the diamond in the rough as soon as possible, mind you these are before pics!
the engine is not running at this time, as i mentioned earlier it sat for three years doing nothing.
Fact of the matter the previous owner pulled the parking brake and just left it, so before i could bring it home i had to
free up the rear wheels. i am glad that there plenty of people which have been deep into the waters on these things i will be asking questions?

I have been compiling links, books, and tool recommendations in this thread:

http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8703

Hope that helps. If you find another source of information please pass it along and I will add it to that list.

I am also reviving (in my case, a rust bucket) a car.

Thread here: http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8746

If there are any photos you need, just let me know. I have been trying to document with photos everything I have done so far.
