New Guy,wants a Fiat Spider...again

Post by Mr.HighStack »

Hey all;

I,m from Barrie Ontario...figure a good time to look??

I had a 79 Fiat spider,it was mint,no scratches, no rips....7/10. Had to let it go. Paid 3400cdn for it...sold it for 3200,overheating probs,quick fix I know.

Now the Question......What to get???....fuel injected...older..74.....79......

got about 3500cdn to spend. dont need super fast...will change over exhaust if needed ..k/n filter...just bolt onss...dont really want to get into the engine, unless nessecery repairs require.

Your help would be great....been reading the post here, and alot of you know your stuff,I actually have learned alot from the replys

G'day. I don't know how common the Spiders are in Canadia but if you're not wanting to spend a lot of time on/under the car then you may be better off looking for a newer model. A lot of it will come down to personal preference - for example, I have always felt that the 1800cc engine was the best mix of revability and torque, and much prefer the earlier blade bumpers, so for me it was a fairly easy decision to go for a '74 (plus it was red... :-)) The pre-74s also had the lower springs so they don't look like they are on stilts.

You will probably be better off getting a daily driver which has had the reliability driven into it rather than a weekender which has some issues to be sorted. If you're in no rush, then take your time and drive as many as possible. With any luck, your next Spider will find you.

There is a Fiat Spider in the Toronto area for dirt cheap. check this web site: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... IdZ6974960

Engine is good but needs full restoration. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, worth to have a look. Check the Autotrader.ca too. I saw a 74 that needs less work and is in the 613 area code.

Good luck

wow, that looks pretty rough. i think you could find something in better condition than that.

how much do you know, and how much are you willing to do yourself? that helps determine what you "should" buy.

if you are truely incapable (not directed personally at you) of any work, you will need to buy something completely done. that'll cost some entry bucks.

if you are wanting to do literally everything and anything, then you can buy in cheap, and spend a lot on parts.

yada, yada....

I d rather pay the Big bucks first for good ride...not too big though
but I do know my way around a wrench, and a small engine mod would be start.

How much hp more, from FI.with k/n? not much???...better to change over exhaust manifold??? So Fi is not an issue??

As for bumpers, would really like to take them off,the lines of the spider as so cool

Agreed on the bumpers, mine didn't come with any and I'm going to keep it that way.
