where do i find brake line?

Post by 84pininfarinablack »

Advance auto parts has all kinds of different length brake lines pre-flared with the bolts on it already. $5 wow! However they do not have the right size / thread bolt(with the hole in it) I guess for my 84 spider.. Do any other auto part stores carry these pre-made sections of brake line that will work on the spider ? IAP says to call and check stock. they im sure want to sell the whole set.. I just need the 1.5 foot piece for the front left wheel to master cylinder. The advance auto guy he acted like he had never seen such a bolt.. lol but he seems to know alot about cars.. is the fiat a weird one ? Where do I get a new peice of line or should i be looking for a bolt from a junked fiat and then flare the line myself ?
thanks for your help.

Perhaps someone parting a car might have one in great shape. I know how you feel, need one bit but have to buy the whole kit for the one thing :?

You need to go to a good auto parts store that sells Edelman. All replacement brake lines are the same but Edelman makes adapters for the Fiat tapered seat components to use standard brake lines with Fiat calipers, hoses, and master cylinders. It is an adapter that is for Fiat only and they are about $3 each. They also make a line connector so you can match up different lengths to get it to fit right.

I don't know if AutoZone does or not but most independent "real" parts stores do. I got them at a Big A affiliate parts store. Stores like AutoZone and Advanced Auto Parts are chain retailers that sell the "A" list fast moving parts like brake pads, spark plugs, etc. So you usually won't find large assortments of unusual fittings and hardware there. The independent store I got them from had to order them but they knew exactly what I needed and had them in 2 days. You might try NAPA also. If nothing else, call Saitta Auto Parts at 636-527-5800 in Ballwin, MO. Thats where I got them and I am sure they would be happy to send them to you.
