Car compliments

Post by kilrwail »

I pulled into the grocery store parking lot and backed in next to a Toyota Matrix, driven by a pleasant-looking middle-aged woman. She was smiling and gave me a nod, but I have never seen her before. She pulled out of her spot and rolled down her window. She said "Classic car!" and was beaming, ear to ear. I said, "Well, it's old anyway." And she said, "Nice!" and pulled away slowly. while admiring the car and smiling intensely.

I wasn't driving the Spider or the Porsche - and this sort of thing happens often when I do. I was driving my beat-up Mazda, still wearing some mud and salt stains from its last rally, showing bits of rust here and there around the wheel wells and replete with its fog and driving lamps and big white stripe. That's never happened before with that car, but it was fun!

Peter, please turn in your MAN card at the front desk.

Did you ask her if she ever drove a STICK before, and what do you mean by ANOTHER opportunity missed!

If she'd been talking about me, she'd have used the word "antique" :)

Once I pulled up next to a man in a Porsche, both of us had the top down. And he complimented my car.

Of course I reciprocated.
