Mexican pimped Fiats

Post by MNspiderman »

I wonder if the Mexicans will ever take over any fiat spiders like the 64 Impalas and such. Some of those guys are pretty talented when it comes to cars. Huge rims, hydrolics, wicked paint jobs and full blown custom interiors, hoods split in half, things of this nature. Dont get this confused with the ghetto mexican mobiles with 12" truespoke wire rims, no suspension and muffler dragging on the ground.

Well, heres how this MEXICAN pimps his ride.

I dont think that was worded very well, but I get your meaning. A little info for ya, bank in minnissota or where ever you are. Some Mexican Americans have put some pretty nice cars together in the fashion you are talking about. Although, not my taste, i do appreciate quality work of many different types. Even though I would never go down that road. Not only Mexicans, but Blacks and Whites have put in a good showing around here with some nicely modified rides in that style.
Oh , and I did see an x 1/9 pimped out in your fav style, Airbags and all. It wasnt to bad. It was in Lowrider magazine.

I gotta admit that I'm with Spiderrey on this one.
I'm about as white a guy as you'll ever find, and I wouldn't have thought twice about the type of comment made in the original post, until I married my Hispanic wife. And started having kids who are 1/2 hispanic.

And just like Rey, I'm not 'offended', nor do I think there was any insult or offense intended, but I wonder if there isn't a better way to ask the question?

My brothers-in-law (all Mexicans, in every sense of the word except their passport) have some very, very nice rides, including a race-prepped 240z, a Bugeye Sprite, and I bought a '67 Cooper 'S' from them a decade ago. They are all about very nice workmanship.
And I could just as quickly point to some guys around here (white, if it matters) who have an '84 camaro that is sitting on what looks like a CK Blazer frame and 35" mudders.

Bad taste sees no color.
And remember; one man's trash is just another man's garbage.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

I just had to laugh at that post just because you typed it. Just to let you know I wasn't going in any direction there. My ex-wife was Puerto RIcan.
Spiderrey, nice looking engine! Are your valve covers Polished? How do you like that exhaust manifold?
Looks Like I could have my engine looking like yours soon. At least on the outside but with a single carb.

I knew you werent going anywhere with it, just wanted to clairify some things I guess. You pigeon holed lowriders on just Mexicans. Everyone has a hand in these where i grew up. I remember the class that graduated before me in high school had nothing but lowriders in the homecoming parade. Some were top notch. I was envious at the time. I remember as a fresh man the seniors would park thier rides right in front of school, My mom was driving her 74 vw bus and while dropping me off bumped one of these lowriders while dropping me off for school. I thought I was gonna die, or be killed. All the seniors ran over, they talked to her and were so cool. They just walked away.
Three years later I was senior. There wasnt a lowrider at the school. The cars I remember were my 71 spider, two nice tr 6,s, a 914, and an x 1/9, my how things change.

Thanx for the positive comments guys.
Agoustoyou, the valve covers are polished. I love these headers, The heads were reworked by Croft himself. They have his billet cams. The engine was built to his fast road specs using his book as a guide. I sold the carbs because I wanted to go fuel injection. But thats turned out to be to complicated for me anyway. Currently running a single 38 weber, performs well enough but just temporary. Looking forward to getting Marks manifold and a set of 44,s.

I think his name was Manuel, lol. No seriously. I took it to a shop just down the road. I dont have the patience for stuff like this so I just payed a professional. Whenever I need something polished It goes to the same shop. Heres what I did for my x.

Great, evertime you need something shiney, you give it to a Polish guy? You think the Irish and Germans cant make something shiney.

Rey, real nice engine, does the exhaust manifold blue up from the heat?

Rey, hate to sound like a stuck record.. but that is a nice looking engine you have there.
It amazes me how you and others here can put an engine together and not have oil sprayed about.A terrific skill set I'm envious of. I could never think about running without a T. belt cover. I have built 4 engines now and even being super carefull with the seals, they still ooze a tiny bit.
A piece of art to be proud of.

Thanx again, but every engine ozzies something. On my set up everything is painted with several coats or polished. That way you dont have a porious surface to hold the dirt and oil. The aluminum that I didnt want painted or polished got bead blasted and sprayed with engine clear to seal it making it easier to clean. To my surprise the clear gave the blasted aluminum a slight pewter color. A nice plus in my opinion. My alternator was even ploished out at the time of the engine build. Anybody can do it, just takes a little thought and planning to get a nice engine bay. The little details wilget you there. For example, I looked at lots of air cleaners before i went with the ones in the pic.

Pope the exhaust manifold dosent blue up from heat, its not chrome. Its ceramic coated and polished just like the manifold and down pipe in the pic for the x. Had this done thru Allisons shop.
