wondering what goes here ?

On the center console of my 1984 spider I have a chrome bezel around the parking break. In front of that is a switch which turns on my heater fan hi/lo/off In front of that there is a little square hole where something is missing. What is it that im missing.? is it some kind of light or switch? I found a couple of stray wires down there. My car didnt come with whatever it is and its so small I cant figure it out from looking at others pictures. Thanks for your help.
