About to make an offer on a 78 spider and start doin work to get it running solid for the summer months. Just wanted to stop and say hi to keep the account active and say that I hope to be posting on here regularly to get my spider looking and running how i want - prob not going to restore since I am 26 and don't have that much cash, but will be getting it running smooth and making some cosmetic changes along the way.
ALSO - anyone have ideas for little things that are common problem areas? I have read around a little and I'll mostly be checking for rust in spots because of age and supposedly it runs fine so I'll post again once I drive it and decide to take the plunge for sure.

Hi jfelds, welcome to the forum.
Has the car been sitting for long? If so, you'll want to flush out the old gas. Plan on changing out the coolant. Definitely check the rubber components; belts (timing belt should be changed as a matter of course), hoses, fuel and brake lines, and the flex disc, which is a rubber connector between the tranny and drive line. Pull the wheels and check the brakes. Pretty much the same things you'd check on any older car that has been sitting except maybe for the timing belt and flex disc (or guibo as it's sometimes called.)
Have fun, and be sure to post pics of her for us when you get it home.

Hola J.
I'm in Montgomery and another fellow here is in Loveland. Hope the new ride works out for you. Thoroughly check front shock towers, cross member under the engine, floorpans, and wheel wells for rust.

RUSTY!!! Too bad I don't have the time because it runs, but the body is rusted through in some spots, suspension and crossmember look too bad for me to invest time into it Back to looking more, hopefully I find something worth my tinkering time. Thanks for the tips guys, I'll post back every now and then and let you guys know when I finally have one in the driveway.
