new car old parts?
Hello Im not very up on fi 4 bangers so hope I dont sound too stupid. Bought an 81 spider for my son. It has a bad fuel pump but sounds decent when we get it running. I read somewhere on here that an 82 F150 302 pump is almost a direct replacement can anyone verify this? I have not been able to find a master cyl res as the one in the car is dry rotted and broken up. All the supply houses I have checked are out of stock any one on here know of any more that I can check? additionally there is some type of channel molded into the top of the inake with two hoses going into either end and an S pattern inside what is this Due to lazy ness I havent traced the hoses to see where they go. in advance thank you

hey texan, great to have you here.
slight point of order on how to best use this resource. i learned this tidbit the hardway, so don't take offense. break your needs/wants into a different post for each mechanical area. Parts wanted? great... go to that section of the forum.
many of us (i am extremely guilty of this) speed read the posts.
are you willing to consider used parts?
what resources did you use that told you the master cylinder reservoir is back ordered?

Re: new car old parts?
many of us have parts cars hanging about, or parts in bins left over from parts cars. a used 1981 master cylinder reservoir should be very easy to find, and at a very reasonable price as well... especially here at the forum. place a parts wanted thread in the correct forum for this, and i bet you have one on your workbench in about five days.
additionally, this particular part is routinely found on Ebay as OEM item by some of the non-catalogue parts vendors.

Hey Tex,
A fuel pump from a 1989 Ford F150 FI 302 will fit the Spider. Of course, there may be other 302 fuel pumps that will be the same, but a friend of mine with an FI has confirmed this on his car. Going through Auto Zone or the like is bound to be cheaper than the $200 some vendors want.
As for the brake reservoir, I'm not familiar with the 81 if it doesn't resemble the two on my 72, but if they can be mounted, you may be able to go that route:

Denise, later models went to a single container with a baffle inside, one cap with a float that operated a warning light should the fluid fall beyond a safe level. although, it mounts in the same location with nearly the identical bracket. an enterprising gal or guy could substitute an earlier model set of reservoirs.
