The hood on my newly acquired Free-iat desperately needs some lubrication. In addition, this car is equipped with power windows. I have not attempted to use the windows yet but I presume, like the hood they will need lubrication. The question is, what type of lube should I use on these items?
Also, the car is and 81/82 with the original red paint that has faded. I will eventually be painting it but in the mean time I would like to attempt to polish up the old paint in an effort to make her more appealing. Does anyone recommend a particular brand of polish/polishing compound or have any tips/concerns.
Thanks-

Re: Hood Hinge and Power Window Lube and Polishing Products
you really need to take the hood hinges off, clean and polish them. Once I do that I like to put antiseize or ceramlube on them to prevent any rust coming back
as for paint, there are lots of really good products on the market these days

How about the power windows?
Re: Hood Hinge and Power Window Lube and Polishing Products
the window cables run on rollers and I haven't found them requiring much lubrication, that is unless the rollers are seized. The trouble with slow windows is usually poor grounds or a voltage drop, very similar to the slow wiper problem
Re: Hood Hinge and Power Window Lube and Polishing Products
Thanks Mark. I haven't tried them yet so I am not sure how fast/slow they are. I was hesitant to try to run them until I evaluated their condition and lubrication. Hopefully I will get to check them out this weekend.

if you decide to lube the window cables, use a silicone type lubricant that is dry. Otherwise dirt buildup will occur and eventually cause more trouble

Hey Michael,
When I acquired my 77,the red paint was completely flat.No reflection at all.I bought cheap Turtle Wax rubbing compound and did small areas at a time.It looked like a different car when I was done.It aint gonna win best in show or anything like that, but it is very presentable.Make sure you wax it as soon as you finish with the compound.Have fun!!

Michael,
I used to buy and sell junkers. For the paint, buy a liquid product called COLORBACK. When I first used it, I thought there was magic in that bottle, it worked so well with VERY LITTLE EFFORT.
