My 72 from which I copied my crossmember measures 24 3/16, the 69 measures 24 3/8. from ACE's measurements it appears that 1/4" of variation is entirely likely. I wonder if the factory had some kind of guage to know which box of crossmembers to assemble from to get a front end that could be aligned or just put it together and it was what it was? My upper location being wide just makes mine worse. What to do, what to do.

I've got a crossmember from a 72 but I don't know what you guys are measuring.

Measuring the distance from the left side of the x-member to the right side of the x-member, at the flat surface where the lower control arms are mounted. I would think that these 2 mounting surfaces were designed to be parallel to each other.

Re: Camber issue
I came up with the following measurements on a 78 cross member(possibly non-original to the car), note the cross member was a bit "saggy" in the middle portion just below the motor.
Front: 24 1/8"
Rear: 24 1/16"
Top, (from the top bolt mounting flange to the other side) 22 15/16"
Front: 24 1/8"
Rear: 24 1/16"
Top, (from the top bolt mounting flange to the other side) 22 15/16"

Re: Camber issue
Maybe this is the fix you need? Fiats ous shims here. The Alfa rome uses a short tube over the bolts instead of the shims. Maybe since you need more shims this would be a better way to get your adjustment?
Re: Camber issue
I have removed the crossmember, checked all the clearances so I could pull all the slop in the direction that needed to be longer to get negative camber(passenger side)I then fabricated a 1mm shim to fill the gap between the crossmember and the drivers side mounting surface. I made sure that all slop in the bolt holes that mount the ball joints was in the direction I needed. All of this has allowed me to achieve .5 degree negative camber with only 3/16" of shim. Sucess!!!

I just went through this thread to see who was contributing to it.
After considering who's car it is, and who has contributed to the thread, I'm not in the least suprised that it was resolved successfully.
