What would you do with this engine?

Keep it on topic, it will make it easier to find what you need.

I am serious, and stop calling me Shirley! Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

I agree with others, rebuild it to stock, drive it for a year, then plan out your performace mods systematically.

i found a step by step by mbouse using the ATF that mark suggested... i'm on step 1. kinda. i couldn't get that 4th plug closest to the windshield and walked away before i got too frustrated. everything is in the way and i can't get my socket wrench where i can get to it. any tips on this one? just be more patient?

Using a swivel and an extension on the socket makes it a lot easier. Remember the plugs are at an angle and when you reinstall them, make sure you use a little anti-seize, start them by hand, then use the socket to tighten them.

I only suggested getting it running properly and assess the condition before making any mods. If it takes a year to do that I guess there won't be any rush

The only special tools I have ever bought in the last 9 years for the Fiat is a big ol bar and socket for the crankshaft pulley. The 4th one is a little tricky.

progress...

I changed the oil and filter, new spark plugs (the old ones had a lot of black on them - too rich mix I think) and after dripping in some ATF for a few days, turned the crank pully nut and it moved with no resistance. Also I had drained the gas tank and glad to see it looks good on the inside, no brown chunks. went to crank and the key just spun around in the ignition switch... so I guess I need to order a new one, not sure what the PO did. as soon as I get that squared away I can try to crank it.

You may have luck finding a used one if you post it in the parts wanted section. Plenty of us have parts cars.
