Learn from my lesson RIMS

Post by amsiegel »

I got a set of rims off of one my local parts / mechanic guys who swares they came off of a Fiat.

It might have come off of a Fiat but they either left the 10-15mm spacer on the Fiat. The rims are American Racers probably from an Alfa. Since the inset is 35mm the front passanger tire rubs on the sway bar and the rear drivers rim rubs on the part of the parking brake cable. I figured out tonight that the PO installed the parking brake cable wrong. The cab le is on the wrong side on the long traling arm. Its on the botom of the arm and I am guessing it should be on the top of it. The front sway bar might be a little off center it sticks out a little farther past the bracket on the passenger side than the drives. Even if the both of these things are corrected with a 35MM offset everything is very close.

If your wondering why I bought the rims. They do look very cool plus there is a good chance I might be getting rid of the Spider in the next few months. Since the time with the car might be short I wanted to get somethings changed so I can take it out and have some fun and looking good.

You're not the only one with a rim blunder.

I recently bought a set of rims off an alfa spider, and in my infinite wisdom let a friend of mine convince me they were 4x98 but are infact 4x108

Since i got all 5 for 150, plus a good set of tires on them, I'm going to invest in a spacer/adapter to go ahead and get them mounted and usable.

On the bright side, they are a great set. In fantastic shape

Boogie

Did you kick your friend for being so helpful. I think we should go to congress and have them pass a new law that all rims that dont fit Fiats should be stamped "Will not fit FIAT" or a big "NO". We will know what it means.

I am looking into some spacers right after I correct the brake cable.

I did infact, BUT it's also partially my fault for not double checking. When I went to get the rims, I jacked up my car and took off a tire to check the clearance and offset of the new rim, at least that part was correct

This site http://adaptitusa.com/ has quite a bit of them. That's where I'll be ordering my spacer/adapters from unless there's a better deal out there that I haven't found yet
