Drive shaft removal

Post by bakercs »

I am getting ready to remove the engine in my '73 CS1. I have already removed everything that needs to be removed, except the drive shaft, where it attaches to the transmission via the flexible coupling. On the first trip under the car I put a wrench on the bolts and they did not want to move.

My workshop manual says I need a "Compressor, flexible joint removal and installation" tool and gives a Fiat stock number and a Kent-Moore catalog number, neither of which Google can find.

Suggestions please.

I find it easier to remove the other end first. That way you dont have to mess with the donut. 4 bolts near the rear axle, then pull it loose. Undo the nuts holding up the drive train and rear trans mount bolt and the yoke will slide out of the trans.

I just use an impact wrench and a 19mm wrench to hold the nuts. Takes about a minute to get the 3 bolts out

Pope & Mark,

Thank you both for the information.
As soon as I can get past the Christmas season silliness, it's back to work on the car.
