electric fuel pump on my catbed 78
electric fuel pump on my catbed 78
I am going to put an electric fuel pump on my car to make it easier to start after sitting. Has anybody done this? I am wondering if I should put it by the tank or under the hood. I was thinking of running a relay with the power to trip the relay coming from the coil. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?

it has to be in the back, electric pumps don't create much suction . First though, I'd replace the accelerator pump diaphragm, that's really the only spot that can drain the float bowl

Mark's right about it needing to be in the back. They're pusher pumps so the less suckin' they need to do, the better off they are.
I just installed an electric pump in my 78 about a month ago. It's a rather simple process, the only difficulties being wiring it up to have power only when the key is on(which is not very difficult). You're going to need to pull out the back seats and run the wire through the rear firewall, up to the front and find a source of 12v power while the key is on. It's up to you where you want to tap into, but i chose to run it up into the engine bay and use the idle solenoid to power it. You're also going to want to install an inline fuse and possibly a toggle switch if it tickles your fancy
