Picture of 4-2-1 Manifold...
Anyone out there have a picture of the 4-2-1 Manifold (the one everyone recommends) that they could post or email to me at dsnyder@peoriaud.k12.az.us
Thanks

Pretty sure that is a picture of an Alfa header. Just type in your car information and it will give the correct picture for your Fiat.

The only pic I have is one on the car. Maybe it will help you. It looks like a 4 into 1 except for the obvious 2 outlet holes.

I'm confused.. Isn't that what the OP asked for? Or is there some difference in a manifold and a header?spiderrey wrote:Wilson, thats a header.
Nice engine bay, mdrburchette!

Denise, I have a question about your intake setup. How close does the hood come to the intakes. I have heard that you should take the width of the intake, and that should be the minimum amount of space that is needed above an intake to draw in air.
It looks like you front two come close. But it could be an optical allusion from the angle.

1 inch above and around the velocity stacks is a minimum for proper air flow into the stacks.
Header/exhaust manifold = almost the same thing.
A manifold is usually a cast iron factory part, a header is usually a tubular steel system of pipes.
The 4-2-1 tubular steel "header" (aftermarket) and the stock cast iron 4-2-1 manifold (68-73 and 79-85) are basically the same, just made from different materials. I've had/have both on my car and did not notice any difference performance wise between the two.
The factory option (68-73 and 79-85) is cheaper if you can find a good used manifold and will probably last much longer than the aftermarket systems due to the wall thickness of the downpipes. The aftermarket headers are louder than the stock manifolds, the cast iron manifold dampens a lot of the noise.

Picture stolen from midwest 124. Shows the 4-2 section missing the 2-1.

Pope, it is aweful close and it does not provide the optimum clearance for good air flow but it would have meant removing the original flat hood and I was willing to give up a horsepower or two to keep my hood. If you really want to get techinical about it, those directional screens over the horns kills the air flow more than the hood clearance. Guy Croft cringes every time he sees this. Jeff Scheferman cringes every time he sees I'm not using a filtration system on the carbs too. I guess I just like to make the boys cringe.pope wrote:Denise, I have a question about your intake setup. How close does the hood come to the intakes. The difference between an exhaust manifold and header is on the manifold all the cylinders use the same manifold and route the gases into one pipe. The header is like 4 separate pipes that usually are the same length that connect to a collector. So, I wonder what the 4-2 manifold is really...an exhaust mani-header?

Re: Picture of 4-2-1 Manifold...
Thanks for the pictures. I have the cast manifold that was stock on some models. I just went through a major refit to put that manifold on and I started to worry that people were referring to the 4-2-1 headers shown in the earlier pics as what was desireable. I'm glad to see that I'm running what others are.
