Oil Pan? for an 1800 - 2L Block swap

Post by dinesh »

I'm starting on putting a 2L block to my stock 1800 Head. I got a 2L Oil pump with the block but no pan. However, I managed to source a 2L pan from eBay that is dented at the front (of course the seller didn't mention it and it was cheap enough $45+ shipping not to return it). The seller or the PO had knocked out the dent and I'm sure it won't interfere with the oil pickup.
My question is, can I use my slightly shorter 1800 pan with the 1800 oil pump on the 2L block?. I understand that there's a slight offset with the mounting holes (thinking of using Hylomar with the gasket).

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Mark. I will use the 2L pump and pan. My other reason to re-use the 1800 pan was the low hanging of the 2L pan compared to the 1800.

I've recently done a similar swap, putting a 2L motor in an earlier car.

I replaced my motor mounts, and still found too little cleanrance between the oil pan & the cross member.

I'm going to use spacers on the motor mounts, figuring that's a LOT easier than replacing the crossmember!

...anyway, I thought I'd mention it, as I'd recently run into it. good luck, keep us posted!

Thanks Lee, I have the original mounts on my 1800 with only 56k miles on them and they are much bigger than the new ones I bought. The guy who sold me the 2L block advised me to measure the cross member clearance before taking the engine out and then use large washers/spacers to lift the 2L block to get the same clearance.
There was a really good step by step write up with loads of photos on the Web with the title "2L Engine swap helper" that is no longer there. If anyone knows of an article like that feel free to chime in.
