Hey all!
I somehow deleted my first draft of this.... so in a nutshell:
I find I have a LOT more time to plan my motor-build than originally intended: it'll be next winter before I can install, rather than Feb, as I'd planned. (The wife says I don;t get a Motor 'til she gets the bathroom remodeled )
SO: I'm toying with tooo many ideas.
the crux of it all though, is that it's not a race-car. It might see a track-day or two, but it's not even primarily a track-car. It's a driver. A weekend blaster. So the order of imprtance for me (when it comes to the motor) is:
1) SOUND
2) FUN to drive
3) HP (see #2)
I've been down the road of Motorcycle power-plants; Too many hurdles, waaaay too many compromises. That's out.
So my options I'm left with are something EXOTIC (Like a Ferrari 308 motor, if they were to be found affordable) or something at least BASED on something that SHOULD be in that car, ie: the twin-cam.
I would LOVE to learn that somebody has already developed a flat-plane crank setup for this motor. (I'm a great fabricator, but not much of an engineer.) I think that would just about fit the bill perfectly. The sound would be awesome.
so how about some ideas? What options have I overlooked?
What are the most wicked builds of the Twin Cam that you've ever seen / heard?
thinking out loud.... wicked sounding motor.

Im sure there are builds way more wicked then mine. If i could video it with sound starting up and running I would. It gets seious attention everywhere it goes. And its like music blasting down the road. I once had a guy ask me if I had a hotrod v 8 under the hood as I idled out of a car show.

Re: thinking out loud.... wicked sounding motor.
Hmmmm.... I would think there would be close to a zillion options.. But..
Gio at Clemente's 4 play auto sport in Vancouver just might have an engine for sale. Last time I was there he had a 124 spider a customer wanted some upgrades. The guy ran out of money and gio was selling bits off the car ie slightly used top and frame, wheels were sold, but the engine was from a Lancia Integral turbo. Air blows from the passenger side I think, but he was going to make it work somehow.
I thought those engines had some serious horsepower for the displacement and still might be a reasonable car to drive on a daily basis.
Just one thought of many.

If you want to take a ride on the wild side. I think you should be installing the Alfa Romeo GTV6 2.5 engine with the rear transaxle/transmission. It has the Dion suspension back there. I've thought about it for mine too and I own a GTV6 to boot.

the 2.5 swap is one I'm planning for my coupe. I have a Milano that I'm parting out, bought it specifically for the swap.

I see from Mark's post below that you've got his header and exhaust on it. What else have you done?
