Hello from Idaho
Hello from Idaho
Well I've been looking at a 1979 Spider and I finally took the plunge and bought it. It is a 1979 Spider Dark Green with a looks like tan interior. About 66,000 miles. It looks to be in pretty good shape. Are there certain things I should check. This is my first Spider, I'm really exited about it. Great looking car. Here is a picture I took of it. Thanks for having such a wonderful site full of great people and information.

Nice looking car. Your going to want to check all the rubber. Especially the drive shaft flex joint and tranny mount. If you don't know when the timing belt was changed, change it. If you change the belts. Your probably going to want to change the water pump. If you don't. It will probably fail soon after you change the belt. There's more. These other guys will chime in on it.

Thanks For the great info. I'm hoping I did ok. I paid 1200 for it.

Hi Ozzie, welcome to the site. You got a killer deal on a great looking car! You'll need to get a couple of manuals for the car to help you with maintenance. It'd also be a good idea to download a wiring diagram form Brad Artigue's site here:
http://www.artigue.com/?page_id=30
You'll aslo find a very infomative maintenance and modification manual at his site.
Are you hooked up with any other Fiat owners up there?

Welcome! What part of Idaho you in? I'm about 60 miles south of the border in Ogden. We have a group of spider owners Greer that are trying to get together sometime soon. Feel free to sign up with the group if you think you can make it out once in a while. Click the link in my signature to check it out.
P.S. Glad to see your car isn't the one for sale in Preston.

Re: Hello from Idaho
Thanks for such a great welcome, I really haven't had a chance to drive it much, gets dark at about 5:30 when I get home from work. I will be checking stuff out on it tomorrow. Boy the fuse block sure is weird. I have a few things to work on. Speedo doesn't work, interior light doesn't work. Little things like that. I am going to order a new speedo cable and timing belt tonight. Although the am/fm 8 track seams to work great. Any way to find out if this is a local car to Boise , Idaho. Here are a couple more pictures. And the oil on the drive is from my Old ford pickup.
Thanks Again Ozzie
