BASIC HEATER FUNCTIONS

Can someone help walk me through the basic heater / cable / control functions?
I don't have an owners' manual, and the workshop manual is less than clear.

If I understand correctly, the farthest lever to the right controls the 'flap' that directs air to either the defroster or the foot vents.

The center one must control the coolant valve, I'm guessing?

So what does the one closest to the driver do? (Or what is it SUPPOSED to do, since mine appears to do nothing whatsoever)

Lastly; i've got two big coffee-can vents that are open to the cowl, directing cold air straight at my feet. the passenger side has a lever that I would've assumed was to close this, but is inoperational. the drivers' side lacks any such control.
What is SUPPOSED to be there?

coffee cans or smaller ... say like soup cans?

those are fresh air vents allowing air in from the cowl. both sides should have a paddle that closes them, and a handle to control the paddle.

center console levers are:
left - - - cowl flapper, allowing fresh air from the cowl to pass through the heater core. forward(toward the dash) close the vent, rearward (pull back) and the flapper opens.
center - - - hot water flow control through the heater core. forward (toward the dash) close the valve. pull back to open.
right - - - defrost or floor directional control for the exiting air stream from the heater core. forward=floor rearward=defrost


don't fret... i frequently draw this out on a piece of paper when i allow someone to drive my spider (like that really happens!)

yeah... but it's only beautiful if you know what you're searching for.... i did a search for heater, heater controls, etc etc, and was coming-up buptkis.

besides, what fun is research? research is for guys with fancy red leather seats. us vinyl boyz gotta raise our hands and ask questions. we love the sound our vinyl suits make when we move around.

Well Maytag, theres your problem. I bolded the words above that show the search words I used: heater controls.
Must be the OTHER heater controls that I searched for. Hey dont let it get you down. Mike will gladly do the search and report back.
