in my experience, oil vapors in the carb are a bad thing; eventually accumulating dirt, grit and turning to carbon deposits that cause all sorts of problems. Carbs generally do not need lubrication. If you do feel the need to lube anything on a carb, use a dry silicone type lube so dirt will not accumulate and make the matter worse

OK... this is from the Dave that owns the car... Sorry about the "it"... I'm new to the board. Here is the temporary solution I came up with. The carb locks up when the car is allowed to go back to idle. The carb will do this if the linkage is attached or not attached. So the linkage is not the problem.

I noticed that if I reach down to where the linkage hooks to the carb and pull up on the linkage, the carb frees up. I placed a large rubber band around the end of the linkage rod, right where the rod hooks to the carb, and ran the rubber band up over the air cleaner and hooked the other end to the oil dipstick. The rubber band pulls up on the linkage and the carb throttle pivot and everything works fine. -That is until the rubber band breaks. My new carb should be here by Monday. Thanks for all the help and sorry for the breach of etiquette.

not really a breach of ettiquete, but it helps to clearly define the situation. The more info the better the level of advice.
