performance ignition coil: ballast resistor?

Post by maytag »

HEY ALL!
so, the previous owner replaced the easy stuff: cap, rotor, plugs & wires.
I just replaced points & resistors.
but the whole thing is sucking-from the old (VERY) ignition coil.
So I've got an MSD Blaster 2 coil I'd like to put in.

My question is:
am I gonna weld my new points together? :!:
Does the existing wiring have a resistor link or ballast in it somewhere? What voltage was our points system designed to run on?
also: what would a safe plug gap be, once I crank-up the coil like that?

BTW: '76, with dual points.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

If it was me,I would go to an electronic set up.Pertronix makes one that uses all the existing cap, wires, etc.Or you could source one from a late model. That's what was done on my 77(before I got it).I use the Blaster2 on my 82 w/ electronic ign.
