wow! Look what I started.... and I didn;t even MEAN to! Imagine if i was TRYIN'!
So, yes; in a way, my question was answered.
But in the meantime, while y'all were havin' a p*ii*ng match, I figured-out what was goin' on w/ mine. Got 'er all fixed-up... so I might as well leave it on.
Now, that's not to say that when I build my next motor to go in it that I'll build it for EGR. I wouldn't count on that.
Now, as to the other poster's query: when I took this to have it inspected, here's how the conversation went:
tech 1 to tech 2: "does it have a cat? does it need a cat?"
(me, suckin' on my teeth, playin' dumb, 'cuz it had one, but it ain't got one no more)
tech 2 to tech 1: "no dood, the sticker says it's federal, so it don't matter. just test it."
!?!?!?!?
now, I didn't ask specifically, 'cuz once you ask a question like that, it's tough to put the toothpaste back in the tube.... but should I gather from the conversation that for my '76, at least in my municipality, as long as it passes the sniffer, the actual equipment / visual test doesn't matter?
I dunno. after I've got a sticker, I'll prolly ask 'em what "It's Federal" means.....

I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!
Re: EGR / WTF / AND OTHER DRIVEL....
in 76, Calif Fiats had cats, 49 state Fiats did not. There should be a sticker on the left door jamb that says either "non-catalyst" or "catalyst"
Re: EGR / WTF / AND OTHER DRIVEL....
I wouldn't call any of the above a pi..ing match, just a good discussion. Nothing wrong at all with difference in opinions. As long as everyone realizes that while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, they are not entitled to their own facts.
The Important thing...
DID THE CAR PASS??????????
