I want to give my current handbrake a better look. Does anyone have any ideas in customizing the look?

i like my hand brake handle just the way it is, so "better" is a matter of opinion.
cutting and stitching vinyl is not difficult. try cutting a circle of vinyl and stitching that into a cone shape and see how that looks. i did this on the SpitWad a couple of years ago rather than buying the replacement boot for the car. Turned out fairly nice.
unless you are talking about cutting the opening larger in the center console, i'd be concerned about clearance between the brake handle and the console. any material between the handle and console could act to bind up the movement of the handle...resulting in tearing of the material or causing the handle to get stuck, or cracking the console, or all three.
